Stunning Standy for sale- black mare, 14.2hh, 11yrs old. 'Malayika' This beautiful girl came to me only six months ago to fulfill my hopes of getting back into riding. Having had no work for the past five years I took her for walks around the neighbourhood in hand and then proceeded to retrain her on the lunge and long reins. This was only done after having her teeth seen to and having much rehab work done on her feet. Sadly, since spring, I find I just don't have the time to work her and have come to the realisation that this is not going to change. I have only just begun riding her in preparation for finding her a new home. Work on the lunge has been fantastic and this gorgeous girl clearly remembers what she was taught all those years ago. On the lunge she walks and trots evenly. She can also canter quite well once she gets going but does transition through pace at times. She will need much more work to get her going. I have ridden her twice at walk and trot in the three days preceding this ad- once in a friend's small menage and once around the neighbourhood. She was very good in the arena- even standing quietly while the saddle slipped as I mounted. She feels quite stiff to ride and will need some gentle work to get her supple again. On the ride around the neighbourhood she went ok but was a bit spooky and "looky". Having said that, there were no great dramas- no big shies, or leaps or attempts to run off, no head tossing, jogging or other annoying or dangerous behaviour. She really just needs to relearn that rubbish bins, logs, tree stumps and piles of mulch are not dangerous.We did a bit of trotting and then walked home on a loose rein. Malayika is lovely to handle and a really sweet mare. She is easy to catch and is pretty good to trim. She does at times try to get her own way but is pretty easy to bring into line with some firm but gentle persuasion. No big dramas. Malayika would be most suited to someone who wants an equine companion they can love and dote on, and be loved in return.She needs someone who would be capable of developing her confidence, boldness and obedience. I really have no idea what sort of work she would suit but she has lovely 'uphill' conformation often preferred in dressage horses. Malayika has some small scars on both back legs from old injuries- not all that noticeable Malayika is available to an approved experienced home only. The buyer will be a mature and independent adult- NO CHILDREN/DEPENDENTS, and have a stable income. The fee of $500 includes a set of rugs (cotton, canvass and two synthetics) valued at $200. It also includes her recent dental work (Sept 2015) and up to date feet trim.
