Georgia Bruce At The National Equine Expo
Para-Olympian Georgia Bruce will be giving demonstrations at this year’s National Equine Expo Bendigo.
This provides the horse community an exceptional opportunity to see one of Australia’s top level riders in action. Georgia, who works with Lions, Cheetahs, Rhinos, Lemurs, Monkeys and other exotic animals at the Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve in North Queensland, has studied animal behaviour and psychology. This has led to her specialising in a method of training known as Operant Conditioning or “Clicker Training” which is based on positive reinforcement. Georgia also specialises in training young horses, re-training problem horses and training trick and liberty horses. Georgia has recently been working with some wild brumbies in North Queensland, turning them into quiet domestic horses, both on the ground and under saddle. Georgia competes successfully in open competition including Dressage, Hacking, Cutting and Western Events. She says “Ride every day, ride as many horses as possible and learn about how horses think and how they learn. Horses are athletes too, learn how to keep them sound!” Rumba the Wonder Horse is owned by Georgia and she has trained him to perform tricks such as bow, rear, lying down, fetch, soccer, coights, croquet and musical instruments Rumba also paints pictures and performs grand prix dressage movements completely at liberty. “Reward the horse for every try, and then improve the behaviour gradually by raising the standards that earn the reward,” Georgia says. Georgia’s best international result was a 3rd place at the Belgium International Combined Festival of Dressage. She rides Victory Salute, a 12 year old, 18hh, Warmblood x French Anglo Gelding. He owned by Carolyn Lieutenant, and he is also campaigned in Grand Prix with Brett Parbery. Georgia Bruce will be demonstrating her particular style of horsemanship in The Indoor Demo Arena at the National Equine Expo Bendigo at 12pm on both Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 November. {sidebar id=3}Further details can be obtained from the National Equine Expo Bendigo website or by contacting the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society office on (03) 5444 4646.
